The ideal Data Architecture and Platform Manager candidate is a seasoned professional with deep expertise in enterprise data architecture and platform management. This individual will have a proven track record of transforming data into a strategic asset, leveraging it to drive business outcomes. They should bring extensive, hands-on experience in building data and analytics strategies from the ground up—creating robust data platforms and implementing high-quality, consumer-grade analytics and ML/AI solutions that directly enhance business performance. The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Strategy & Planning
Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for data architecture and data platform vision and standards in partnership with business users, functional groups, IT functional stakeholders, and other key stakeholders.
Architect and implement a next-generation enterprise data lake (Data Fabric, Date Mesh etc.) platform that integrates diverse data sources and supports high-level analytics, business intelligence, and adoption of ML/AI to leapfrog value creation process across the organization.
Create short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.
Conduct data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks.
Create strategies and plans for data security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving.
Ensure that data strategies and architectures are compliant with regulatory and client contractual requirements.
Acquisition & Deployment
Enable ‘build/buy/augment’ strategies for enterprise data platform to deliver data and analytics solutions that are ‘future fit’ and deliver on ‘time to market’ expectations.
Design, Develop and implement data acquisition (ETL) or in-place data pipeline methods to enhance and enrich data coverage to enable enterprise-wide data foundation made available for analytics.
Establish and implement data integration standards for ‘at rest’ and ‘in transit’ to ensure both data platform and operational systems have the right data available at the right point of engagement.
Establish processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata (Master Data Management); take steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity.
Establish methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
Analytics and Operational Management
Assess and determine governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing data across the organization.
Develop and implement architecture and governance framework for all current dashboard implementations and establish standards for future deployments.
Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards.
Select and implement the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
Lead the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality and driving usage of insights across the enterprise.
Collaborate with stakeholders across functional groups, business group leaders and project managers for all projects involving enterprise data.
Address data-related problems related to systems integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration.
Act as a leader and advocate of data management, including coaching, training, and career development to staff.
Develop and implement key components as needed to create testing criteria to ensure the fidelity and performance of data architecture.
Document the data architecture and platform environment to ensure a current and accurate view of the larger data picture is always maintained.
Identify and develop opportunities for data reuse, migration, or retirement.
This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule with the expectation of 3 days per week in our Chicago office, and 2 days remote from home.
Qualifications
This position requires:
Education
Bachelor’s/Advanced degree in computer science, information science, engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience
Knowledge and Experience
7+ years of experience in data architecture and data platforms, with a focus on large scale data platform solutions.
Hands-on experience with data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
Direct experience in implementing enterprise data management processes, procedures, and decision support.
Strong implementation experience with data modeling and data integration (ETL/ELT/Data pipeline) technology stack
Strong familiarity with metadata management and associated processes.
Hands-on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, data mapping tools, and data profiling tools.
Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies.
Ability to manage data and metadata migration.
Hands-on experience with one or more cloud data platforms e.g. Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Amazon Redshift.
Excellent client/user interaction skills to determine requirements.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
Proven project management experience.
Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
